The standard height is 7 feet but some residential garage doors may range from 6’6” to 8 feet.
The standard single garage door size is 9 feet wide.
For double garage doors sizes may range from 12 to 18 feet wide, depending on the size of the garage.
When building your new home, it’s best to discuss with your architect your plans of having a garage door and how you plan to use the space. Note that the type and number of vehicles that you want to park in your garage are factors in its design, width and height.
Yes! The thickness of your garage door can be important. For one, steel garage door panels can be as thin as around 1/8 inch. While this is the most economical of all the doors but barely offers insulation. Meanwhile, insulated doors are a tad thicker, with a ½ to ¼ inch-thick piece of foam insulation on the interior of the steel panels.
